Why PDF for the digital
version of the newspaper & not HTML?
Our Highlands' Newspaper is created in PDF format so that it can be separated
out from the
HTML Internet Directory Visitors. PDF statistics refer to 5-12mb newspaper
downloads only.
A newspaper can only obtain a true statistical representation by separating its
newspaper from
its Internet website so that it can see how many actual readers want just the
stand-alone newspaper.
PDF (Portable Document
Format) is a file format created by Adobe Systems Inc to enhance document
exchange. Documents in PDF are independent from device and display resolution
and can be read on any operating system (Windows, Macintosh, Linux). These files
are a combination of vector graphics, text, and raster graphics. They support
links (internal and external), forms, javascript and 3D objects. PDF documents
may have different levels of encryption (view, print, select…) and even DRM.
Since the 90’s, Adobe’s PDF has become the standard file format for document
exchange.
( As you read this, the number of PDF documents indexed by Google™ is topping 100,000,000. PDF has quickly become the electronic equivalent of printed paper and ultimately the worldwide standard for sharing documents. That's because PDF documents are compact, universally viewable, print the same as they do from their original application, and they're not as susceptible to carrying computer viruses as other formats.)
